New Acomb Manor Care Home set to open in York
Work on Acomb Manor Care Home is entering its final stages as St Mary’s Care Homes prepares to welcome residents to its new purpose-built home in York.
Located on Acomb Road in Holgate, the new 66-bed care home will provide residential, dementia and respite care in a modern and welcoming environment designed around the needs, interests and wellbeing of residents.
Acomb Manor will feature en-suite bedrooms across three floors, alongside comfortable communal lounges where residents can relax, socialise and spend time with family and friends.
The home will also include its own pub and hair salon, beautifully landscaped gardens and a varied programme of activities and events shaped around residents’ individual interests and preferences.
A new care home for the York community
Acomb Manor has been designed to provide more than high-quality care, with a focus on creating a genuine home where residents can continue to enjoy fulfilling lives and maintain connections with the people and places that matter to them.
Kate Desmond, Managing Director of Acomb Manor Care Home, said:
“We are looking forward to welcoming residents, their families and the wider community to Acomb Manor Care Home later this year. Our priority is to create a warm, welcoming home where people receive compassionate, person-centred care and are supported to live fulfilling lives.
“Every aspect of Acomb Manor has been designed with residents in mind, from the comfortable living spaces and engaging activities to the dedicated team who will provide personalised support every day. We want Acomb Manor to become a valued part of the local community – somewhere residents remain connected to the people and places that matter to them, and where families always feel welcome.”
The opening of Acomb Manor will also create significant employment opportunities in York. At full occupancy, the home is expected to support around 75 team members across care, hospitality, wellbeing and support roles.
Steven Davis, CEO of St Mary’s Care Homes, said:
“The opening of Acomb Manor Care Home marks another important milestone in the continued growth of St Mary’s Care Homes, reflecting our commitment to investing in high-quality care homes where they are needed most.
“This represents a significant investment in York, creating around 75 new jobs while delivering a modern care home that will serve local families for many years to come.”
A more sustainable approach to care
Acomb Manor is also one of St Mary’s Care Homes’ most sustainable developments to date.
The fully electric home will be powered through a combination of air source heat pumps and solar PV panels, helping it achieve an EPC A rating.
Its energy-efficient design will help keep energy use low while maintaining a comfortable and reliable environment for residents throughout the year.
Steven added:
“As we continue to grow, we remain committed to investing responsibly in communities where high-quality care is needed most. Acomb Manor reflects that approach, combining skilled job creation with sustainable, energy-efficient design to deliver a care home that will benefit local families for generations to come.”
Acomb Manor Care Home is located on Acomb Road in Holgate and is easily accessible by public transport for residents, families and visitors from across York and the surrounding area.
The home is expected to welcome its first residents in early winter 2026, subject to CQC registration, with a public open day planned as part of its official launch.
