Residents at Hutton Manor Care Home in Pudsey helped shine a spotlight on some of their own community heroes during a special Superhero Day in support of Alzheimer’s Society.
The Crawshaw Road home brought residents, relatives, team members, volunteers and community supporters together for its annual celebration on Friday 28 August, recognising people whose kindness and dedication make a difference to life at Hutton Manor and in the wider community.
Residents have their say
In the weeks leading up to the event, nominations were gathered through conversations with residents, relatives and team members.
Residents were then invited to choose from the community nominees, giving them an important role in deciding who should receive recognition.
Volunteer Maddy was recognised for her contribution to the home, while fellow volunteer James was honoured as a community champion.
Steve Sanderson, a Royal British Legion (RBL) member, received recognition for his support of Hutton Manor and his volunteering with the organisation and wider community.
Local councillor Trish Smith was also honoured for her continuing support for the home and for speaking up for others in the community.
Among the Hutton Manor team members recognised was Carer Andrei Tuculeanu, who received a resident champion award for the care he provides.
Celebrating Hutton Manor’s everyday heroes
The day began with residents discussing what makes an everyday superhero and sharing stories about people who have gone above and beyond for their community.
In the afternoon, guests joined residents for a buffet and live music from Hutton Manor maintenance team member and professional drummer Haydn, before the celebrations concluded with the awards ceremony.
Those recognised as “Hutton Manor Heroes” received certificates and token gifts, while the home’s “2026 Superheroes” were presented with trophies, flowers and chocolates.

“Superhero Day is a chance to recognise the kindness and dedication of our team members, volunteers and supporters in the local community. It was particularly special for residents to help choose the community award winners and thank people who make a difference to life at Hutton Manor.
“Alzheimer’s Society is a cause close to our hearts, and it was lovely to combine fundraising with a thank you to our everyday heroes.
“With September marking World Alzheimer’s Month, we hope the celebration also encourages understanding and support for people living with dementia and their families.”
